Program Goals |
The programme aims:
- To instil scientific knowledge, insight, as well as methodical, technological and communicational skills that correspond to the specialised field of the programme; - To gain an academic attitude with a critical, scientific and creative way of thinking, based on awareness of the ethical and social aspects relating to ones own research, and insight into the professional situation and into the consequences of ones actions on others; - To prepare for a scientific career and further education, especially for a doctorial education (PhD); - To prepare for a career in society. The graduate will be able to pursue an independent profession.

Program Structure 1 |
The curriculum covers two years (120 ECTS)
YEAR 1:
1. General Compulsory Modules (15)
2. Compulsory Specialization-specific Modules (18)
3. Electives (12) Electives can be chosen from courses of other specializations and/or from a list of recommended courses and/or from any Applied Science Master course and/or (with permission from the board of examiners) from other Master's courses. The list of preferred electives will be published on Brightspace -> Master Life Science & Technology -> Content -> Study Info.
4. LM3822 Design Project (12) + LM3551 Ethical, Legal and Social Issues in Biotechnology (3)
YEAR 2:
5. LM 3901 Master Research Project (45) The research project is specialization-specific
6. LM3803 Company Internship (15), or TUD4040 Joint Interdisciplinary Project (15) LM3804 non-industrial internship*
*In exceptional cases, the programme coordinator may allow a student to carry out a non-industrial internship project (LM3804, 15 EC) with learning outcomes equivalent to those of the Company Internship LM3803.

Scientific & Social Orientation
Students are allowed to substitute 30 EC of the above-mentioned MSc programme LST by the following Special Programmes.
- Track 'Science Education' (in Dutch) (info-sec@tudelft.nl) - Study abroad (InternationalOffice-TNW@tudelft.nl). - One semester of the MSc programme Management of Technology* (Andrea Witkam, info-lst@tudelft.nl)
ATTENTION!!! Students with the exam programme of 2021 substitute the elective part (12 EC), the company internship (15 EC), and 3EC of their MSc End Project (MEP) = 30 EC. Students with an exam programme of 2020 or older: they substitute the elective part (12 EC) and the company internship (18 EC) = 30 EC. These special programmes must be approved by the coordinator of the specialization.
*Limited # of places available. Application deadlines: 15th November (for semester 2) and 1st of July (for semester 1)
